Volunteer of the Week for July 20th, 2007

My name is Aditya Ashok. People call me Adi. I am 17 years old and I will be a senior at Bishop Guertin High School in Nashua, NH. I have been interested in working with AIDS Awareness among my peers and that is how I got to find about about TeenAIDS. I went on the internet and did a search and the first reference was to TeenAIDS-PeerCorps. I called and emailed to volunteer my services. After meeting with Dr. John, I am doing my summer internship at the office in Fitchburg. I am now the Coordinator of the Teen Advice Column and serve on the Teen Advisory Council (TAC). I am really enjoying reading the questions from teens from all over. All of us on the Council hope you like our advice.

I first did AIDS work last summer when I volunteered at Camp Heartland in NY that serves children and youth living with HIV/AIDS. What a wonderful experience to be able to help those in need. I am also very active in protesting the genocide currently being conducted in Darfur and organized a rally in June in Nashua.

The week this is posted, I will be in Ghana for three weeks this summer where I am
volunteering with an AIDS awareness campaign there. While there, I will meet with Clement Achim Gyimah, a member of TeenAIDS' Global Advisory Council. I hope to find youth who will be part of the TeenAIDS worldwide webcast on World AIDS Day. Upon my return, I am helping Dr. John organize New Hampshire youth for the Worldwide Webcast. I am planning a fundraiser for TeenAIDS in September at Uno's (if you have a Uno's Pizzeria Restaurant in your hometown, they welcome fundraisers for TeenAIDS).

I have also travelled to India where my parents are from. I like old movies in my spare time. Maybe some day we will meet.
