Volunteer of the Week for October 19th, 2008

I spent my childhood through 5th grade in a Philadelphia suburb before moving to Maine, where I graduated from high school. I never really traveled a lot, only leaving the country once or twice on trips to Canada. After much indecision as to where to pursue my college career, I settled on Dartmouth. My first two years have continued the indecision with which they began in terms of figuring out what I want to do with my life after college. Upon hearing of the opportunity to go to Africa with Dr. John, I decided that it was something I wanted to do. The decision to join Dr. John on his walk through Africa was a bit last minute, but not at all lightly made. I know that in some ways the trip will be challenging and shocking, but I also know that it will be an unforgettable experience. The opportunity to take four weeks of an off term and spend them traveling through Africa to educate teens about AIDS seems like a very engaging and worthwhile thing to become a part of.
